She's Afraid of Me
User Question
I have read how to hand train my parakeet, but some of the time she gets scared and flies to the back of the cage. When I get her on the perch I'm holding, right away she flies away. When I try to get her on my finger, she flies to the back right when my hand gets to close without a treat. Sometimes she bites me to when I'm to close when she's at the back of the cage already and I'm without a treat, either she bites or moves away from my hand. Could you help me come up with a solution.
Lisa's Answer
Well remember, the first part of hand training involves the perch. So your hand shouldn't be anywhere near her if she's still afraid of the perch. It sounds like you're trying to go too fast. Just work on the perch until she does NOT fly away. Only then do you move on to the next step.
