Parakeet and a Cockatiel

User Question
I have recently adopted a parakeet and a cockatiel that lived in the same cage. I found them fighting so i seperated them, but now they seem lonely. Should i reunite them? I am not home during the day and they don't have company. Also i like to let the parakeet, Bobby out of his cage to fly around. I recently moved them to a more convenient area of the house. The only only problem is that there is a sliding glass door and skylights. Will he fly into them? I don't want to clip his wings because i have a cat and a dog. I don't want him to accidentelly fall prey to them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It is a good idea to keep parakeets and cockatiels in their own cages, they are quite different types of birds. You can always let them visit during the day if both are hand trained, but they will appreciate having their own cage to sleep in, their own food and water to eat and drink. Make sure both are hand trained before you open their cage up for that though!

Parakeets will fly into glass just as regular birds do, until they get the hang of the whole glass concept. With regular birds, you stick stickers on the windows so they see it is solid and not a clear spot to fly. So do the same thing for your indoor birds. Not stickers like the type you put into school notebooks, but the suction cup creatures and vinyl stick-on things that can be easily removed :)
