Keet Moving Stress

User Question
My mother had a wonderful Keet who unfortunatly refused to eat when we moved. He was with us for a few years, but wasnt "old". He sadly died. We were told that it is common for this to happen because the keet gets stressed when moved. How true is this?

I am a new Keet owner and dont know if I should move the cage around for a change of scenery (once he is settled) or if that would stress him out. My daughter wants to take him to school for show and tell. I already told her it will be a few months, but I am wondering if its not a good idea all together.

Please give me your thoughts on this, when you can.

That really doesn't make much sense at all - I moved pretty much yearly with my keets, and I know a ton of people who moved with their keets. Keets grew up in giant plains in Australia where they flew around all the time. People take their keets to the vets for checkups. So just moving a keet shouldn't be a problem at all. It's more likely that the move wasn't done well - the keet got a chill or got bashed on the head while the cage was being lifted or something - and the injury / sickness is what killed the keet.

Keets don't really need a change of scenery, they like to be where things are active. So it's best to find a spot in the house where the most activity is and then let them hang out there. They often like watching TV or looking out windows to give them interesting things to look at. You can always set up a play gym in another area for them to go visit, and just return to their cage to sleep at night.

So that all being said, the important part about show and tell is that you have a small travel cage to do the moving in and make sure it's shielded from cold temperatures and such.

I have a page on budgie travel here -

that should get you started.
