Teflon Pans

User Question
My dad and i love to cook and i wanted to know about teflon pans. you've said on your site you shouldn't have any, but i wanted to know if they were in a different room with the door shut are they still in danger??? i looked on your site many times and haven't found any questions about that. i love your website, it has been so helpful to me so far. my mom also wants to know how messy they are and how much they bite. thank you very much for your site.

Lisa's Answer
When teflon heats up it creates a toxic gas. Gas can go anywhere. And to be honest, if this stuff kills small mammals like parakeets, it isn't great for large mammals either. In fact some research finds that many people get sick from teflon pans but think it's just the flu or food poisoning or something. Really, get other pans for your household.

If you change your keet's cage liners weekly they really aren't messy at all. And they really should never bite if you hand train them well. Biting is what keets do when they feel threatened.
