New Budgie is Exciting

I got my keet about 1 week ago and he was totally scared of me. I've been toting his cage around the house with me for the past week. He recognizes me very well. But,tonight something extremely weird happened. All of a sudden he is full of life! He's hanging from the top of his cage, jumping in and out of his food and water cups (he is eating and drinking) and just won't sit still. He's not hand trained. I put a bell in his cage earlier today and he's been making it ring all evening along with climbing the cage. It seems as if he was in a daze the first week and has just come out of it and realized he wasn't at the pet shop anymore. He's chirped maybe about a total of 6 times since I've had him.

PLEASE HELP ME! I'm scared for my bird because he's acting like a kid that's had way too much sugar! What's up with this?

Keets in the wild when they are afraid will often be quiet because they don't want a predator to find them and eat them. So it is very normal for a keet that is in a new situation to be still and quiet. It sounds like your keet is getting used to the environment and is more willing to move around.

Remember, keets love to fly and move so your keet is feeling cooped up in the tiny cage without any real room to stretch and fly. So work on the hand training so that in a few weeks your keet can actually come out of the cage and stretch its wings! Imagine if you were trapped in a bathroom for weeks and weeks without any real room to turn around or stretch. That's what your keet is in right now.
