Keet Not Eating Much

User Question
One of my parakeet is not eating much. The other is eating alot. But she (or he) could be sick and I don't know it. It ate only once or more but almost like once a day. What is happening. I only got 2 and I don't want to lose 1.

Lisa's Answer
Remember, keets are often shy about eating and could easily be eating when you are not in the room. If you change their food daily and have two food dishes (one for each keet) then each keet should be able to eat as much as it needs to. Also give them veggies and stuff for a balanced diet. I have pages on parakeet healthy eating here -

that all being said, if your parakeet *used* to eat much more and you're noticing a visible change, then you do need to talk to a vet. Ask your local pet stores what vets they recommend or look in a phone book. Vet visits for birds are usually pretty cheap and can catch a problem before it gets to be much worse.
