Dogs and Parakeets
User Question
i know that you already have answered this question about dogs interacting with parakeets.. but i have a special question, my dog (10), golden retriever,is a retired seeing eye dog for the blind.. so she is trained to do whatever my family tells her to do (including going to the bathroom on comand) so i was wondering if she would be friends with my parakeet Sky who i have had for about two months now... i can have him out of the cage and have my dog in the room at the same time without them even giving a hoot about each other..my dog , lena, has never bitten anything besides her food, so i think that they could be good companions, do you think that it is possible that i would be able to have them like each other or do you think that i should stop trying to introduce them to each other every day.
Lisa's Answer
Really, the thing is, what would a dog DO with a parakeet? Sure they might be tolerant of each other but it's not like the dog is going to lick the parakeet or the parakeet preen the dog. So with different species of pets like that, your aim is to have tolerance. If you have that, then there really isn't more than that that you can go for that is truly safe :)
