Bathing in the Seed Dish

User Question
Thank you for this amazing site!

I have an 8 month old parakeet that will only bathe in his seed dish - how can I stop this?

Lisa's Answer
I think you're confusing things :) Bathing involves water, not seeds. It sounds like your keet is simply sitting in the seed dish while eating, which many keets do. Keets are used to eating on the ground in the wild - seeds in the wild don't come in plastic seed dishes. They fall on the ground where the keets eat them. So the keet often sits in the seed dish in the cage to eat them. Don't worry about it, just replace the seeds saily and if there are any poops in there you'll get them too.

As far as water bathing, I have advice on the site on how to get your keet used to doing that!
