Paint Fumes and Keets

User Question
We just got two new baby 5 month old parakeets. We are having painting done in the house near the room they are in. Will the fumes harm them? Sorry, we have no email address, but we will look for answers on this site if you answer! Thanx

Lisa's Answer
Definitely paint fumes are not great - many professional painters wear masks when they paint. I would move them into another room at least, to keep them safe, and try to open the windows if it's not too cold out. I know of keets that have died from oven cleaning fumes, which aren't great for humans either. Keets are sort of like the proverbial canaries in the coal mines - they die from things that can also kill humans, but they detect smaller quantities of the problem.
