Brown Patches Above Cere

User Question
My parakeet, Chip seems to have brown patches on the small area of skin above his beak. He does not act sick at all and is still eating and being very active. Everything about him seems normal and I have no idea what is going on. Please help! Thanks

Lisa's Answer
That sounds like scaly face, which is a mite burrowing in the keet's face and causing a disruption. At the beginning it doesn't bother the bird much, but it can get really nasty if you let it keep going. I would talk to a vet and get it under control - or at least verify that that is what is going on.
