My Parakeet Won't Eat Pellets

User Question
I am trying to convert my 3 month old budgie to pellets that are very nutricious and mix them 2/3rds to 1/3rd seed. He will eat all the seeds and then let me know vocally that he wants more seeds. How can I best get him to eat the best nutrition?

Love your website which has helped me so very much. Thank you.

I've done up a page on parakeet kibble here -

http://www.lisashea.com/petinfo/recipes/kibble.html

But I personally haven't gone with kibble. I try it occasionally, but to be honest my parakeets would much rather eat "real food" rather than a machine made all-the-same kibble mix. I have to empathize with them - *I* would not want to eat colored cardboard chunks for the rest of my life, always the same flavor, texture and color! I enjoy eating different foods and getting the different flavors. So while I do have instructions on kibble-izing your parakeets, it might be that your parakeets simply like eating real food better. If that's the case, then read here -

For a good balance of foods for your keets.
