My Bird Flaps Wildly when Loose

User Question
I Have read through you site and I still don't know wheter or not to clip my parakeet's wings. I have him finger trained in his cage. When I have let him out he flys around frantically. What shall I do? Thank you.

Lisa's Answer
I probably wouldn't call it 'frantically' - I'd call it 'joyfully'. Birds LOVE to fly. It's like letting a toddler out into your back yard and watching them run around in high speed circles. They have a lot of energy and love to let it out.

That being said, I wouldn't let the keet out until he reliably gets back onto your finger, so you can get him back into the cage. But a little wild exuberance is quite normal for a keet when he gets out to flap around :)
