Parakeets Flap and Lose Feathers

User Question
wanting to know why our birds flap wing and lose their feathers? we think their fighting but we want to know what the best thing to do, if we need to seperate them or what?

Lisa's Answer
All birds flap their wings, they are birds :) Do you have your keets hand trained yet? If not then they probably are wanting to fly. Work on hand training your keets so they can come out and fly around for a while each day.

All keets also lose feathers occasionally, just like you have hair come out of your head each day when you brush your hair. New feathers grow back in. There are times of year that more come out than usual, that is when they molt. Just like dogs and cats molt in the summer. That's normal too.

If you actually SEE your keets fighting, then make sure there is a food dish for each one, a big enough cage that they each have their own spot and so on. You want to make sure the keets aren't feeling stressed out by their environment.
