Dead Female - Sad Male

User Question
This morning I came down to open up my budgies cage and found my female deceased. The female was given to us by a lady who had left the bird alone after its mate died she had plucked her feathers out and I was told that it was caused by stress.

My question is my male is very upset by this? He is 2 years old at this time, should I wait before introducing a new bird into the cage or is it okay to add a new bird to relieve his stress. PS He has been talking non stop since this morning.

Lisa's Answer
Parakeets are flock creatures so undoubtedly the male is trying to figure out where the female is and is trying to call her back to him. I would look into getting a new bird - I have info on doing that on the website. Introduce the new bird slowly, I wouldn't just put it into the same cage, that could be stressful. Also I would recommend getting another male, unless you are talking with a vet and are fully prepared for raising chicks.
