Will Males and Females Mate?

I already have a parakeet that I call Jeri and he's about a year old. I know that he might be lonely so i was thinking about getting him a friend. If I get a female bird will they mate? Or should I just get a male bird?

Yes an male and female will tend to mate, that is what creatures do :) I would get other male, unless you are willing to sit down with a vet and go over all of the responsibilities involved in having a breeding pair of parakeets.
