Parakeet Slow on Training

User Question
My parakeet is used to my hand being in the cage, but when ever I move the perch toward her, she turns her back to me. Is there something Im not doing right or do I just need to be more patient?

She also has a mirror in her cage but never shows any interest in it. Is that just my keet or is something wrong? Thanks.

Lisa's Answer
In a way, her turning her back to you is a good sign, that she doesn't feel a need to sit and stare at this "approaching dangerous thing". Just push the perch against her backside and she'll turn around vs being pushed off the perch. Training is sometimes a slow process but it is really important in building the trust between you and your keet.

I really wouldn't have a mirror in the cage - mirrors make the keet think that another keet is there that doesn't respond to their communications. That is sort of cruel :) I'd get a bell toy, something they can play with and that makes noise when they play with it.
