Hyper Keet at Night

I had a question. I bought a very cool looking blue parakeet a few days ago. It has a Sky blue under belly with black, grey, and white lines running down her back. She was from a "bin o budgies" I guess. I really like her and in a few days she was on my finger every time I asked her to. Well, my question was, when she is facing some ways she gets on my finger easily, but when she faces a different way its a little more difficult. Is this normal behavior? I also had another question. She always gets hyper at night. She jumps around the cage hangs on top and on the sides of the cage, but when I put the towel on her cage she calms down. She only does that at night. Is that normal behavior? Thanks for your help.

Parakeets only have two feet, so if they move one foot they have to balance on the remaining foot. If you had your back to a staircase, and tried to start climbing the staircase without turning around first, wouldn't it be hard to balance? The same is true for a keet.

Keets have different activity schedules and it sounds like your keet has pent-up energy at the end of the day because she's not out flying around yet. I'm sure once you get her hand trained and she gets her daily "flapping around time" that she will be much more sleepy at the end of the day :)
