Parakeets and Quaker Parakeets

User Question
Wussup!!! I was wondering, can you have 2 parakeets, a boy and a girl, that share a cage, and one Quaker, in a seperate cage? Also, since the Quaker is bigger, can and will he hurt the other two parakeets, wich are smaller?

Thanks sooooo much(your website has really helped)!

I would keep them in separate cages like you have them, but they should be able to play together once they are all hand trained. Parakeets sometimes play with even larger birds, so a Quaker parakeet should be close enough in size.

If you have a boy and a girl though, make sure you take both to a vet and sit down and have a long talk with the vet about breeding, and make sure you buy the necessary equipment and are prepared. If they lay an egg, and you suddenly have a 24 hour a day job in helping to care for the eggs, that is NOT the time to realize there is a health issue with one of the parents or that you are missing the necessary vitamins.
