Two Birds in One Cage

User Question
I have a budgie who is 11 months old and I was worried and didn't know if this is a illness or just a normal. You see kenji my bird is always closing one eye then opening it then does the same to the other or closes both. I was wondering if I should bring him to the vet. Also just recently I got a baby budgie that's much younger then him. This new bird is about 4 months old and I put this new bird in the same cage as Kenji. And he seems to dislike this bird because everytime my new bird walks closer to kenji he either bites my new bird or screeches at it. I can't afford to buy another cage for my new bird. Do you think he'll eventually warm up to the new comer.

Lisa's Answer
Yikes, if the birds are biting each other I really would ask for a loan from your parents and buy even a small cage for the new bird. One of them could be seriously injured. You really shouldn't ever put a new bird into an existing bird's cage until you are sure they have become friends and are fully hand trained. Believe me, if you can afford to think about a vet trip, you can afford to get a new cage to keep your birds safe and healthy.
