Flying Circling the Room

User Question
I have a parakeet who is really fun loving, but when I let it out of the cage it normally does stay on my hand or finger. But when it goes to fly, it just goes in the air circling the room. It runs into things and I am afraid it will get hurt. I think it is just exploring, but it seesm I am having a hard time training it to come back to my hand. Sometimes it will and sometimes not.

Lisa's Answer
I will guess this is a young keet? Young keets are on the clumsy side and aren't very good with figuring out where objects are yet. They tend to fly into things. Once the keet gets older he will figure this out better. If this is an older keet that is having vision problems, I'd take him to a vet to look into that.

Keets don't always necessarily fly back to your hand, they land where they want to land. But if you go over TO your keet and tell him to get up, he should then hop obediently onto your hand :)
