Baby Birds and Baths

User Question
We just got our baby budgie 5 days ago, he seems happy enough, although dosen't chirp constantly yet (I suppose that will come in time). My question is when should I introduce him to his bath? We've been taking him out of the cage for about a half an hour everyday so far, should I try then or am I pushing too much too fast? Thanks

If this was a hand raised bird and is already finger trained, then having him out every day isn't a problem. But if the bird isn't finger trained yet, it really shouldn't be out of the cage for safety reasons. You really need to ensure that the bird will come to your hand on command before you let it loose in a room. I have step by step instructions on hand training on the site.

Birds don't chirp constantly, they chirp when they feel like it :) If I play music they might chirp along, or for example they are chirping contentedly to themselves asthey sort of sleep. But it's not like they chirp 24 hours a day, any more than a cat purrs 24 hours a day. It's just something they do sometimes.

All birds love baths but you shouldn't force him to take one. Just have the bathtub with fresh water out somewhere that he can get to it easily. For my birds I have the tubs on top of their cage. That way when I take them out of their cage they go up there, splash around, and then go up to the curtain rods to dry off.
