Outside at 30F
User Question
I just got two parakeets from a man who breeds them outside. All his birds have been raised outside. I live in Tucson, Arizona so the weather isn't too extreme. Summers can get hot and winters can drop to the 30's. Though the man assured me they would be fine, my question is, should I get a nesting house. Not necessarily for nesting but you mentioned at night in the wild they would find a hole in a tree. The cage in under a covered patio with a latice breaker. I hope I haven't asked an already asked question, but I didn't see anything about birds outside.
Lisa's Answer
Yikes that is FREEZING COLD temperature - your birds would die!! Parakeets come from the meadows of Australia where it is *temperate*. There is no way a parakeet is going to be healthy outside in 30F weather. I've heard people writing in with birds that get sick when their house is down to 60F or below. I would most definitely keep them inside in the winter.
