Lysol Spray

User Question
I'm planning on buying my first parakeet next month and really appreciate your informative website. In the meantime, I'm setting up the cage and supplies so everything will be ready for the new bird. My question is........do I need to wash the new cage first (and obviously let it dry) before bringing the bird home? If so, what would be the best way to go about it? And can I use any disinfectants like Lysol spray, that evaporate? Thanks so much!

Lisa's Answer
YIKES never ever ever use sprays that kill living things on a keet cage! They are VERY sensitive and can be killed by oven cleaners and toxic fumes. Don't put those sorts of things right in their cage!! Hot water is quite fine for cleaning.
