Showering with my Parakeet

User Question
Well, in your website it said that your bird might sit on your shoulder when your taking a shower or bath. IS it safe to just let your bird fly around when your taking a shower? Or will the spray of the water hurt ur bird? Also, if your taking a bath its just safe to have the bird around or will it poop on you by accident?

Thanks your website really helped. I didn't get my bird yet but I'm going to get it soon right when it hatches from its egg from one of my friends. Thanks.

Sure, our birds fly around when we take a shower. If birds were slain by falling water, how would they survive when natural showers (i.e. rain) happened? Raindrops are usually much bigger than shower drops :) Unless you have some super-high-pressure shower nozzle going on over there ...

Of course your bird will poop on you by accident :) That's what they do. If you're afraid of poop, a bird is not the pet for you. They eat seed and veggies, their poop is just little dried circles of mushed up seeds and veggies. But it's a part of life. You either accept poop as something to wash off, or you get a fish instead :)

Definitely do NOT get the chick as soon as it hatches out of the egg!! Raising a baby chick is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week job that really needs to be done by a trained person. If you don't feed the parakeet properly it can either die or have serious malnutrition that will affect its whole life. You want to get a baby that is hand raised - but you don't want to take it from its home area until it is fully weaned.
