Anti Female Prejudice
User Question
I am about to buy a parakeet that I would like to teach to talk. The store raises them and hand feeds them until ready for sale. Right now, they only have 3 Females. The owner said that she would wait for a male to come of age because the Females will not talk (or at least not easily), and they are nippy. So, are Females nippy? How hard or impossible is it to teach a Female parakeet to talk, and if we have two parakeets, how isolated do they have to be from each other if we would like to teach both to talk?
Lisa's Answer
Yikes, what are they, anti-female? I know lots of female keets that talk and lots of male keets that are nippy. I would really really only buy one though - it is much easier to teach a single keet to bond with you. You can always get a second after 6 months or so, when you are fully bonded with the main one you have.
