My beloved male parakeet, Matisse, just passed away after nearly 9 years with us. What do I do with his female mate, Chagal? Do I keep her (she's been with us 7 years) or give her to an aviary or...?

I have a lot of suggestions about handing a left-behind keet on the site - I would most definitely keep Chagal! She has built up a bond with you after all of these years. Keets are not dumb little animals, they are quite smart and learn to tell humans apart. Keets that talk can even call their owners by their proper names! I'm sure she will be much happier in her loving home with you, vs with strangers.
