Temperature

User Question
What is the temperature that I need to keep my one, small bedroom condo at if I purchase a parakeet? I am recently divorced, and would love a pet such as a parakeet, but often like to turn the heat down or OFF durning the day while I am at work....it usually remains between 65-68....but when I get home, I turn it up to 70 - 72...will my new keet be ok if the temp. is 65?

I recently lost my 15 yr old poodle, and remember as a child having a parakeet for almost 15 yrs and I thought I may like to purchase one again.....but only if I know and research the facts about keets... I love your website and I did search for the "temperature" question....but could not find it....thank you in advance for your prompt and kind reply!

Lisa's Answer
I definitely would never turn the heat totally off - that seems like it'd be asking for disaster if the temperature plummeted for some reason. But I imagine around 65F would be fine. If you're goingto be gone all day at work, I would look into getting 2, so they could keep each other company. Keets naturally are awake at day and asleep when it's dark - so your keet will in essence be awake and alone for most of its life. It'd be nicer if it was awake and had a friend to play with, and then you could play with both for the few hours that your lives intersected :)
