Grumpy Bird

User Question
Hello and thank you this wonderful site,

About 2 months ago my husband brought 2 keets home. I think one is female. They seemed to get along very well at first, then within the last few weeks the one that appears to be the male (blue/grey on nostril area) has been moulting and is being very mean to the other keet. All day he is squawking at her or him, I can't tell for sure their gender yet, and biting and/or threating the other. I rarely hear sweet sounds from him. He seems so angry. What should I do? I try to hold them and talk to them as much as possible. Years ago I had a male keet and enjoyed him very much. He sang and talked and loved to be with me, so I do know whats it's like to have a sweety bird.

When keets are teenagers they get grumpy, just like humans do :) It sounds like your keet is going through that phase. You just have to be patient. Make sure you have the general suggestions from my site covered - two food dishes, plenty of space for both, two cuttlebones etc. so there aren't any "sharing" stresses on the keets. Make sure they both are getting a healthy mix of food so it's not a malnutrition issue. But other than that, you might just have to wait it out. Try playing soft music for them and letting them hang out in a sunny window :)
