Parakeet Scared of the Perch

Hey! I just love your site!

My question is about my budgie BJ. He is used to my hand in his cage and i can pet him, but when i started the perch training he put one foot on the perch and then grabbed the cage bars next to him. Does he still not trust me or is he just not ready to start perch training?

Hand training doesn't happen in one day, or two. It is a long, drawn out process where your keet learns to trust in you. It's about building the bonds of friendship. So work on it daily, and show your keet each day that you are there as a friend. That's what it is all about.
