A Week of Training my Parakeet

User Question
We have had our bird for a week and he still goes balistic, flying around and hanging upside when we put our hand in the cage. My daughter and I take turns with the soft music on, putting our hands in with a sprig of millet. One time only has he eaten the millet. Are we doing it correctly. I just put my hand in and leave it in one place. I have been able to put the millet right up to him sometimes but he just isn't coming over to investigate. Any suggestions?

Lisa's Answer
Yikes, a week is hardly any time at all in a training process, and if you're sticking your hand in and waving millet around it's no wonder he gets spooked. I have step by step instructions on training keets on my website and it doesn't involve millet.

You really shouldn't get your parakeet to equate fatty "junk food" with your hand :) If you follow the instructions on the site and are patient, you'll get there.
