Think when you first learned to swim. Did you just jump into the deep end and start doing breaststrokes back and forth? No, you went in little steps, learning to trust the water and your own skills. A parakeet is no different. You got your parakeet to put one foot on - that's a great start! That's how it begins. For a few days it will put just one foot on. Then if you're patient and calm, it will put both feet on. Remember, this sounds like you bought a Bin of Budgies bird and not a hand raised bird. So this bird is in essence WILD. It will take you weeks to show this bird to think of you as a friend and not as a scary monster. You have to be willing to put in that time and energy - and once you do, you'll be rewarded with a loving pet!
