2 Parakeets and 2 Finches

User Question
We just adopted 2 parakeets from a friend, one bird is larger than the other and seems to be more agressive, should we concerned? Also do parakeets need or build a nest? The larger bird fell asleep in the food trough. We have 2 zebra finches (these were also adopted) should the parakeets and finches be close together? They do have seperate cages. Sometimes it sounds as if they are talking. I am very new to birds, so any help is deeply appreciated.

Lisa's Answer
Sure, birds are very social animals, if their cages are near each other they can feel like a big flock and chirp happily to each other! There is always a pecking order amongst parakeets, that is normal flock interaction. Sort of like a dog group ending up with a 'lead dog'. I have several pages about that on the site.
