Gnawing on Perches
User Question
Alright, this isn't about hand biting issues. This is about perch biting issues! My new keet insists upon gnawing her perches. This wouldn't normally bother me- if she's having fun, then let her have at them, right? Well, the perches came with the cage, and they attatch a certain way. I don't know if I would be able to replace them if they became too thin. (The cage came with the bird, I have no box for the cage or product service number to order new perches.) Also, the perches could break at any moment if they get too thin and she would fall! I know I could get some wooden toys for her to gnaw on instead, but WOULD she gnaw on those, AND the perches? Or would she stop gnawing on the perches all together? If she doesn't stop gnawing on the perches, what do you suggest I do?
Thanks for any help you can supply in advance!
Lisa's Answer
It is VERY normal for keets to gnaw on anything they can. It's what keets do in the wild - they gnaw. In fact you should be replacing your perches regularly, getting them fresh perches, perches of different widths, perches with ropey textures, you name it. It's not like you have to get perches made by a given maker. You just buy new perches and fit them in :)
