Growth on the Beek

My bird has a growth around her beak. It fell off whole once, but then began to grow back shortly. She has not lost her appetite and the amount of water she drinks a day seems normal. I have notice that she often rubs her nose on the perch, and the growth does not seem to be trying to fall off. She has also, just recently, started making a gurgling noise every once in a while. Having raised two other parakeets for 5 and 8 years, the noise sounds unusual.(could this be a sinus infection?)

I did ask my vet about the growth, and he said that it was probably a bacteria and he didn't make a big deal out of it. I didn't worry because she has had it for over a year now and seems fine to me

(Could something be wrong even if it is minor?)

Wow my first answer was going to be GO SEE A VET!!! but you actually did go to a vet with your keet and your vet just said "oh it's a bacteria problem"??? What sort of a vet is this! :) Sheesh. Parakeets don't just randomly grow things on their bodies as a normal course of action. It sounds like your keet is NOT happy with this growth if she is trying to rub it off because it is itchy.

I would go to your vet again and get it really looked at - and if your vet continues to ignore it - look for a vet in your area that really is a bird specialist. Lots of vets specialize in dogs and cats and just sort of handle birds because they are there. They don't really know much of anything about bird problems. A real bird vet might do much better and fixing the problem so your poor keet isn't itchy every single day of her life!
