Thinking about Buying a Parakeet
User Question -Would you recommend them for a 1st time bird owner?? -Do they make a mess?? -Will they bite at first and if you train them they will learn not to? Because when we got me dog she was a little nippy as a puppy but then got better. -Will they kick their food and stuff out of the cage? -Where could you find one? Would you suggest getting one from a nice pet store? or a breeder? -How big of a cage should I get and how much would it cost? -the last question, how much would budgie cost?? Thanks!!

Yes definitely, budgies are GREAT for first time owners.
They're small birds, they make small poops and you just clean the cage paper once a week.
They only bite if threatened. So if you get a hand raised one it probably will never bite, and if you get a bin budgie it won't bite if you take it slow.
They don't kick food out. They do eat with their entire head so sometimes seeds fall out as they stuff their beak into the food dish, so you just put a netting around the lower part of the cage.
Many pet stores offer hand-raised parakeets. I really really really recommend doing that and not a bin-o-budgies. It makes a HUGE difference in how friendly the budgie is. Budgies range from $20 to $50. They can live 10-13 years so that's really cheap.
Get the biggest cage you can afford. This is the entire world for your budgie, and this is a bird. Birds shouldn't be stuffed into shoeboxes :)
