Crusting in Mouth

User Question
We have 2 budgies. They are about 4 mths old. It looks like one of them has some crusting in the corner of its mouth. I'm not sure if I should be concerned. While I am waiting to hear from you, I am also going to contact the woman we bought them from, she is a local breeder.

Lisa's Answer
Always call your vet immediately if you have a medical issue. Never rely on a far off website nor on a breeder. Crusting is not normal in a keet, and nobody can diagnose what actually is wrong from far away. Only a vet can look at this issue and determine what is going on. It is always important to have a good relationship with your vet so you can call any time there's an issue and get it looked into quickly! Keets are developed through evolution to hide injuries and problems, so they are not eaten by predators. It is your responsibility as the owner to watch for these issues and get them into the vet quickly, when they are relatively inexpensive to fix.
