Hand Tamed but Scared

User Question
I bought a parakeet 2 months ago, about 6-7 months old. (so I was told) I hand tamed him, but he still scared to get on my finger from his cage and he is no longer letting me put my hand in the cage to take him out. We love him very much and we allways talk and sing to him and he never got hurt by us, so we don't understand what's happening. Also, when I turn the TV on he goes crazy, like his whole body does a "dance" and jumps out of his cage and back over and over with crazy vocal sounds.

Is he scared of the TV or does he likes it? Why won't he let me put my hand in the cage anymore? Is he ever going to come out of the cage to find us?

thank you for your time and help.

Lisa's Answer
Well this is sort of confusing. You say the keet is hand tamed but he is scared to get on your finger. That isn't hand trained. Keet relationships isn't a magic wand sort of thing. It is a very relationship sort of thing - it is really about building a trust, relationship, friendship between you and the keet. If you work on it daily, it will prosper. If you work on it once a month, it will falter. So that is really what it comes down to. It comes down to your keet learning to trust you as a human being. Keets are VERY smart.

Keets love music and song. So your keet probably loves the TV. But you should never let a keet out if it is not hand trained. Work on this every day, it is a critical responsibility as an owner.
