Length of Time to Train a Keet

User Question
I have a parakeet who is just beginning to feel that my hand is a safe place. I've had this bird for a year now, but she never got the training process because of TRAUMATIC childhood experiences. Prior to her, I had a male parakeet who died in August of the flu. (he was only 2 years old) and I was wondering if that bird was a special bird because it only took me 4 days to train him.

This female bird I have still isn't trained and I've been working on training her for the past 2 weeks. I didn't do anything different with her than I did with my first bird. Was my first bird just "special" or can it be possible to train birds within a week or less? I'm thinking of getting a second keet.

Lisa's Answer
Two weeks is REALLY short period to be training a keet. Keets can easily take 6-8 weeks to train. So don't consider this a short period of time to train a keet. If a keet comes to you hand trained it's one thing. If a keet is a wild keet it can easily train a few months to train it. Don't take on a second keet until the first one is trained, it is important to have a keet that is loyal to you before you expand your flock ...
