Air Sack Lump

User Question
Hi, I have a guestion about my parakeet. He has a soft lump on his lower chest. It changes sizes from day to day and he has had it for over a year. We brought him to a vet who said that it was an "air sack". This vet is familiar with small animals and birds.

Should I be concerned? Do you know what else it could be? Our Buddie is about 4 years old and a very lovable bird. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

This is a hard question for me to answer. You've gone to a vet who is actually inspecting your live keet. This vet apparently knows birds. But they are looking at a lump that changes shape and say it's an "air sack". Parakeets have lungs, and of course all sorts of things could happen to lungs. I don't know that lungs are supposed to change sizes from day to day. I might talk to another vet in the area and see if there is any reason that a lung would change sizes. That seems pretty odd ...
