Parakeets Sleeping in a Food Bowl

User Question
I have a new Keet, and he/she keeps throwing all the seed out of the food bowl, and only lays in it once or twice! I have nesting material in the cage and neither of my keets have pecked at it, so I'm wondering why is my new keet throwing the seed out but napping in the bowl only occasionaly?

Lisa's Answer
Just why do you think a parakeet would sleep in a food bowl? That would be pretty bizarre. Parakeets shouldn't lay in food. Sure they play in food. They play in all sorts of things. But sleeping in food? It's time to make sure they have real nesting material, if they are now sleeping in their food.
