Keets and Molting
User Question
WHEN A PARAKEET IS GOING THROUGH A MOLTING STAGE WHEN THEY BEGIN TO SHED ALOT OF FEATHERS, DO THEY GET WEAKER? MY PARAKEET HOLLY USUALLY IS VERY ACTIVE AND SHE CAN FLY REALLY GOOD EVEN THOUGH HER WINGS ARE CLIPPED. RIGHT NOW SHE IS GOING THROUGH THE MOLTING STAGE AND SHE'S SHEDDING ALOT OF FEATHERS. SOMETIMES WHEN MY HOLLY FLIES NOW SHE STARTS TO FLY CROOKED AND WHEN SHE LANDS, SHE GOES SPLAT ON THE GROUND OR ON THE CAGE. AND SOMETIMES WHEN HOLLY TAKES OFF SHE HOVERS IN THE AIR FOR A WHILE AND MAKES THIS HUGE TURN AND FLIES BACKWARDS INTO THE WALL. IS MY HOLLY DOING THIS BECAUSE SHE'S WEAK? AND IS SHE WEAK BECAUSE SHE IS MOLTING? PLEASE HELP!!!
Lisa's Answer
OK first you should NEVER let a keet out when it is clipped. Keets should be safe in a cage until she is fully trained. Keets should never be out because they can be damaged if they are out and loose while not trained.
