My Parakeet Sleeps All Day and All Night
User Question
I got my parakeet four days ago. He's very young I suppose because of the stripes on his forehead, but he's very very tame! An hour after I bought him home he was sitting on my finger and letting me pet him and scratch him, I take him out of the cage and he doesn't try to fly or way and he's not frightened at all! Only, he is constantly sleeping! He sleeps all night and all day, and the minute I take him out of the cage he falls asleep on my finger. He eats ok, he's just lazy! I put a sock in his cage to keep him company and he immediately curls up in it whenever I put him back. Is he ok? Is it normal for him to sleep so much? Thanks!
Lisa's Answer
Parakeets do take naps, but they should be awake for most of the day, and then asleep all night. I would definitely mention this to your vet when you go in for your new keet checkup, something might be causing your keet to be so sleepy!
