Bleach and Parakeet Cages
User Question
I had a parakeet, Neo, but he was never tamed, and he was old when I got him. He died a few weeks ago from old age and I've been looking into getting another one (hand tamed this time). I was planning on using Neo's old cage, and I've been cleaning it up. My father told me to use bleach on it to clean it since hot water wasn't available at the time. He said that as long as I rinsed it really well, and didn't use it on the feeding dishes, once it dried the rest of the bleach would evaporate. I did and I can't smell any bleach on the cage. I have yet to buy another parakeet but I want to make sure his cage is safe for him/her when I bring my new budgie home. Please and thank you.
Lisa's Answer
Many people use a combination of bleach and water to clean cages, so that should be fine as long as like you said you rinsed it well. Good luck with the new keet!
