Making Parakeet Toys

Cheerios are a great parakeet snack. Be sure NOT to get froot loops or other artificially colored treats! The last thing a parakeet needs is exceed sugar and chemicals in his or her body. Remember, they have tiny bodies! Even small doses of chemicals can have a serious effect on them.

Take some twine or cotton thread and string the cheerioes on it. You can tie the string around one of the cheerios for the bottom, so the rest don't all fall off. You can also tie the string sideways in the cage, so the parakeet can slide the cheerioes back and forth on the string. Be sure not to leave excess string lying around, otherwise the parakeet might get wrapped up in it and choke.
