PennPlax Berry Flavored 2-in-1 Review

Cuttlebones and Mineral Blocks are important for keet health, for the keet to get ample calcium in his diet and to keep his beak trimmed. The PennPlax offering combinse an inner area of cuttlebone with an outer area of berry flavored mineral block.

In a way this seems sort of silly - the mineral block has less calcium than the cuttlebone (28% in the block vs 38% in the cuttlebone) so the only benefit you get is perhaps a different texture for the keet to chew on. But now the keet has to go through that outer pink stuff to get to the cuttlebone. If the parakeet doesn't like the pink stuff, they won't do it. If they do like the pink stuff, they might stop when they get to the cuttlebone.

I suppose I personally would rotate a mineral block and then a cuttlebone in my keet cage, if I wanted to give them different textures. If my cage was big enough I'd give them one of each so they could eat whichever one they were in the mood for. Still, my keets don't mind using this style, so as an occasional treat, it might not be a bad idea.
