NegativeFeedback on Ebay

IMPORTANT NOTE: These ebay pages are online for historical reasons. I would now advice my visitors NOT to use ebay. There are alternative sites which provide a far safer experience. I really really don't recommend ever leaving Negative feedback on eBay unless something outrageous happens. Give it at least a month to resolve any issues. Contact the person repeatedly - make sure you use the eBay screens to get their phone # if they don't respond to email. It could be they have an anti-spam filter blocking your messages, or blocking their responses to you. I had one case where a person kept emailing me from an account with a TYPO IN HER EMAIL ADDRESS meaning when I responded, I responded to a typo. I had to work with her for 2 weeks solid to help her get her typo fixed. Every single person she contacted had this problem in responding to her!

If you're just not happy with the transaction, leave a neutral rating. That way you can post your complaint but not actually damage them.

Of course if someone does something blatant and evil - like shipping you an empty PS2 box when you paid $399 for a "PS2 Game as Shown" - then that deserves a bad rating.

What if someone leaves YOU negative feedback, when you feel it was completely undeserved? Here is what eBay says on the matter, from their website. Note that they will NOT get involved in "this is unfair!" arguments. They simply show feedback shown and make NO quality judgements about whether the feedback was warranted or not.




1. Reply to feedback received:
Share your side of the story by responding to any comment that has been left for you. Your response will be shown directly below the comment left by the other eBay member. Reply to feedback you have received.

2. Follow up to feedback you have left:
You can leave one follow-up comment to a comment that you have already left, to add information or clarify your earlier comment. This will appear below your original comment. Follow up to feedback you have left.

3. Mutual Feedback Withdrawal:
If both you and your trading partner are able to resolve a problem after feedback has been left, you can mutually agree to remove the feedback rating. The feedback comment will still appear in the member profile, but is no longer counted in the feedback score. Both members must agree, and feedback left by both parties will be withdrawn at the same time. Start mutual feedback withdrawal for a transaction now.




I was a long term member of ebay - from 1999 through 2009. In the beginning years, ebay was a fantastic community, full of fun bargains, friendly people and a general feeling of joy. It was like going to a fun garage sale on a sunny day and spending time with friends.

However, starting in 2009, changes made to the ebay system altered it overnight from a joy to a horror. In one auction set alone I had three different buyers attempt very questionable refund operations. I went on the forums to get assistance. The forum members' derogatory comments and snide responses shocked me. Literally in one week I went from being from a staunch promoter of ebay to someone who swore never to use the ebay system again.

I am maintaining these pages online for historical reasons, but I would now wholeheartedly warn visitors NOT to use ebay going forward to sell items. The risk to you is too great. Feel free to contact me for all details on the situation. Instead, I highly recommend these systems:

Amazon Sales for selling used CDs, DVDs, books and other products
Etsy for selling personal items (crafts etc)

I have used both of the above sites and they are wonderful.
