Updating LinkedIn from Twitter

I admit it. I'm completely hooked on Twitter. I post on Twitter several times a day. I have Twitter updating my MySpace page and my FaceBook page. When I began using my LinkedIn profile more heavily, I definitely wanted my Twitter posts to also update the LinkedIn area.

LinkedIn is not "up to date" with modern web practices. Where it is very easy on the FaceBook and MySpace sides, with LinkedIn it is a three part process to get the links to flow.

Step 1
Create a LinkedIn account. Hopefully you have done this already, but if you haven't, now is the time to do it.

Step 2
Create a Ping.FM account. This is a service that can auto update LinkedIn status areas. Create a feed for LinkedIn. You now have a flow going INTO LinkedIn. Go into the Application Keys area and get the Application Key for your account.

Step 3
Create a TwitterFeed.com account. Tell it you want to send news to Ping.FM. For the incoming source, give it the RSS feed your Twitter account makes. You'll see this link on your main Twitter page, the one that has all your updates on it. TwitterFeed will want to know where to send that information. Give it the Application Key from Ping.FM.

Voila! You're done! Now when you make a Twitter post, that information will go out to TwitterFeed. TwitterFeed will then pass it along to Ping.FM. Ping.FM will use it to update your LinkedIn status. It's kludgy, but it works!
