I have been planning to write my series of Cinderella stories (including Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, and so on) for many years. Even as a young child I had serious issues with the fairy tales being read to children as happy-ending tales. There just seemed to be so much wrong with them. Key amongst the issues was how the women were often passive and abandoned by their parents to horrific dangers. They endured all sorts of abuse in the hope that someday their husband /partner would "stop being abusive" and start caring for them properly.
And we wonder why women get drawn into relationships with battering men.
I will start gathering my book reviews from my many research efforts here. Please be patient with me as I add them in - I have a lot on my plate!
