In Massachusetts, the bleeding hearts or Dicentra spectabilis begin to grow in mid-April and bloom in May. While some bleeding hearts are native to North America, these hail from Asia and Japan. I adore the shape of these, and that they grow back every year in larger and larger bushes! I have been able to easily move them from place to place, simply digging up the entire plant and sticking it into the ground somewhere else. it grows gladly in shade or sun!
