Biggest Loser SlimCoach InstallationInstalling the Biggest Loser SlimCoach requires an internet connection. Here are the steps that occur when you first install your new Biggest Loser SlimCoach.
What you receive in the SlimCoach box is VERY basic. You get the SlimCoach unit, a small warranty booklet, a micro-USB cable, and belt clip, a little lanyard, your ID code, that's about it. So you have to go to the Biggest Loser website to get anything else.
You start by going to their Biggest Loser website URL before you touch the SlimCoach unit at all. On their website, they have a download area for you to download the software. The software is available for both PC and Mac units. The installation procedure is fairly simple, just a few button clicks and the software is all set on your computer.
Once you download and install the software, it instructs you when to connect the SlimCoach - with their supplied USB cable - to your computer. At that point it starts to initialize and sync your unit. The green center ring light lights up, and the red top left light begins to blink.
Next you need to create an account on their system - or log into an existing one. The registration needs a first name, last name, email, username, password, registration code (comes with the unit on a piece of paper) and the state you live in. Then on your goals page you put in your gender, birthday, height, and weight. You also indicate if your goal is to be active, or to be active plus weight loss.
You now tell the system your goal weight as well as your weight loss rate - from 1-4 pounds a week.
The system initially indicates that you are on a LOW FAT diet! Wow, I wasn't expecting that. Surely they could have said balanced or something else. There's no reason for them to push a specific diet. Later on in the system they do allow you to set different diet plans for yourself, based on what you feel works well for your body.
Once the software is finished installing, your browser is sent to a new page with a big red ring, with a 0% in it. This is showing your current status for weight loss for the day. On this interface, you can see the various setting the software uses and the way the system works.
They assume for this first week that they're "getting to know you". So of course the history pages and such won't be filled in at this point.
Your SlimCoach is now intialized, and your online area is now ready to begin use. It's time to start going through your first week, and setting your base line.
Note that you CAN install your software on as many computers as you wish. Since all your data is stored on their online site, it doesn't matter which computer you use to access that data. It's like having a GMail mail account that you can get to from any computer. Your device syncs with that one online account.
Once you've registered, you'll get a welcome email message that encourages you to join their online community area and share your experiences.
We've done this three times now - it's fairly simple to do. The only real warning is to choose your weight loss rate carefully. This will put you into a permanent group and community, and it doesn't seem like you can change it once you've set it. You can't see into the other groups' discussion boards.
